• Welcome to the Library and Archives Canada (LAC) Portrait Portal. LAC has amassed this collection of portraits over time with the goal of documenting historical personalities important to Canada’s development. The Portal features a selection of works from the largest group of portraits in the country, including more than 20,000 paintings, drawings and prints, 4 million photographs, several thousand caricatures, and ten thousand medals and philatelic items. The Portal showcases portraits by Canadian and international artists as well as images by ordinary people and other well-known artists.
