Digital Research Using Web Archives, September 12, 2012 (WORKSHOP)

Digital Research 2012

  • “Digital Research using Web Archives” is a joint workshop bringing together the leading institutions engaged with archiving and preserving the Web, and the academic partners who have started to explore and use large scale web archive collections for scholarly research. The workshop will present an overview of the current web archiving landscape and how the UK Web Archive is perceived by researchers. It will also report on the progress and outcome of a number of JISC-funded projects, which focus on the use of web archives for analytics and visualisation. The workshop participants will be invited to join a number of parallel break-out sessions, looking at the legal and usability issues related to the research use of large scale web archives. They will also have the opportunity to engage in in-depth discussions with technologists from the Internet Archive and the British Library and outline the technical requirements for applying the “big data” approach to web archives.
