£30 million boost for biomedical engineering research

Welcome Trust

  • The Wellcome Trust and EPSRC announced the launch of a joint £30 million initiative to find biomedical engineering solutions to challenging healthcare problems. The ‘Innovative Engineering for Health’ initiative will provide funding for a limited number of ground-breaking, long-term projects designed to address a specific healthcare need for which current solutions are inadequate. Up to £10 million over 7 years is available for each project, which reflects the scale of ambition that the initiative seeks to support. Uniquely, the initiative provides the resources and flexibility to both conduct high quality basic research and to enable its adoption into clinical or public health practise.
