Staying Relevant in the Digital Age by Delores Meglio

  • Mobile technology, in particular, has inspired librarians to start using YouTube and other online video services as marketing channels. Most libraries already have a mobile-friendly Website or library-related applications for mobile phones, and many librarians use social media to connect with their audiences and promote their resources and services. For example, the METU Library uses its blog as well as social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter to promote new library resources. These tools should complement, rather than replace, traditional outreach strategies such as marketing collateral and promotional materials.
