The Making Of The Blues Brothers

This is a 2005 Documentary made to mark the 25th anniversary of the original 1980 release of “The Blues Brothers” movie. “The Making Of The Blues Brothers” tells the complete story of how John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd first got “The Blues Brothers” act together during the 1978 season of Saturday Night Live. It goes on tell how they recorded their first album, “Briefcase Full Of Blues’ in 1978 and how the album spawned two top-40 hits (“Soul Man” and “Rubber Biscuit”) and eventually went platinum.

The success of The Blues Brothers’ appearances on SNL and the massive sales of their first album brought American Rhythm & Blues music back into the mainstream at a time when the musical landscape was dominated by Disco and Punk Rock. It also paved the way for the production and cinematic release of “The Blues Brothers” motion picture in 1980.

“The Blues Brothers” movie, in turn, revived the careers of many classic artists who starred in the film such as: James Brown, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and Cab Calloway. The Blues Brothers Band also featured a fair number of notable musicians: Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn (from Booker T. & The MGs), Matt “Guitar” Murphy, Steve Jordan, Paul Shaffer, Tom Scott (from The LA Express), Alan Rubin and “Blue Lou” Marini.
