Turkish Universities (METU, ITU, Bilkent and Istanbul) in QS World Universities Rankings by Subject

Top Universities- Worldwide University rankings, guides & events

  • Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) of UK announced the 2013 world university rankings by subject. METU entered in the top 200 university lists in 8 subjects, while ITU, Bilkent, and Istanbul University were included in 5, 3, and 1 subject(s), repectively (http://www.topuniversities.com/subject-rankings). METU is listed among the top 100 universities in 1 subject (Civil Engineering), top 150 universities in 4 subjects (Education, Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Statistics-Operations Research, Mechanical-Aeronautical-Manufacturing Engineering), and top 200 universities in 3 subjects (Economics-Econometrics, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics). With the addition of Economics-Econometrics and Mathematics, METU’s representation went up from 6 to 8 subjects this year. METU Civil Engineering is the only representation from Turkey in the top 100 university lists. ITU is listed among the top 150 universities in 3 subjects (Civil Engineering,  Mechanical-Aeronautical-Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Sciences), and top 200 universities in 2 subjects (Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering), while Bilkent is listed among the top 150 universities in 1 subject (Political Science-International Relations), and top 200 universities in 2 subjects (Economics-Econometrics, Philosophy). Istanbul University found a place among the top 200 universities in Law. QS expanded its September 2012 list of top 500 world universities, and announced a list of 874 universities at its web site this month (May 2013). In addition to Bilkent and ODTÜ which were included in the 401-450 and 451-500 bands, respectively, in last year’s rankings, Sabancı, ITU, Koc, Hacettepe, Bogazici, Istanbul and Cukurova universities entered the 501-700 range in this year’s ranking.
