How libraries can help victims of domestic abuse

  • The library is a local place where victims can go and use the internet to view information about their rights without fear of anyone else being aware of what information they are checking on as the computers in the library reset each time there is a new user. Police can arrange to meet a victim at a library. North Yorkshire Police are working with the library teams to raise awareness in this service and some library staff may also be able to explain what will happen if a victim makes a report to the police about domestic violence. (A pilot has been set up within the Harrogate area with a view to rolling out across the North Yorkshire region).
