The Library of Rotterdam is a public institution consisting of the Central Library, 23 branches within Rotterdam and one mobile library. It was established four hundred years ago and still attracts over 3.4 million visitors every year. Besides being the most popular cultural institution in Rotterdam, it is also the largest public library in the Netherlands. The Rotterdam Central Library offers an extensive collection of books, national and international newspapers, magazines, periodicals, CD-ROMs, audio cassettes, DVDs, sheet music, slides and video programmes to meet all your needs for information and entertainment. Over one million books are available, some of which are very old and valuable. In addition, the institution has established partnerships with other organizations, including a library theatre, a restaurant and the Central Recording Collection, which is justly proud of its collection of over 250,000 CDs and 300,000 LPs.
