disclosure-support-technology

Over 50 delegates from libraries as far afield as Belfast, Lancaster and Swansea converged on a sunny autumn day to the University of Portsmouth to attend Supporting Library Users with Hidden

Disabilities professional development day, organised by CILIP CDEG (Community Diversity and Equality Group). The event focussed on how to support library users for a range of hidden disabilities. Preferably described as hidden “impairments” rather than “disabilities” within the social model of disability, thesearedevelopmental disorders, neurological impairments or specific learning difficulties which may not be immediately visible or obvious to library staff.

For example, Autistic Spectrum Conditions, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia and Speech and Language impairments.
