“Nothing Else Matters”

So close no matter how far
Couldn’t be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don’t just say
And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know

So close no matter how far
Couldn’t be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know

I never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don’t just say
And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they say
Never cared for games they play
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
And I know

So close no matter how far
Couldn’t be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
No nothing else matters

Writer(s): Lars Ulrich, James Alan Hetfield
James Hetfield began to write this song while he was on the phone with his girlfriend in 1990. “So close, no matter how far” shows the connection between two even though Hetfield was on tour. He actually wrote the song for himself, but Lars Ulrich like it after hearing, and it was included on the album.
James Hetfield plays the guitar solo on this song rather than Kirk Hammett. It is one of the few Metallica songs when Hetfield did so.
This song has an acoustic remix that is called the “elevator version” when electric guitars are replaced by acoustic guitars, and with James Hetfield’s voice only.
Michael Kamen arranged the orchestration in this song. He conducted the San Francisco Symphony orchestra which was used to record the version of this song for Metallica’s live album “S&M” (1999).
This song is one of Metallica’s best known and most-popular songs, and it has been covered nearly 100 times.
