7 reasons #libraries are awesome @solusuk

So this week we loved – Public library of the Year, Scientist Barbie, Solo Digital Spaces, Book Collectors of Darya, Gateshead, AR and Dinosaurs, 5 great ways to make student life easier and lovely Lincolnshire Libraries and their intuitive app!

Our team at SOLUS are so good at what we do in the digital world because we have a global view of the amazing work libraries are doing across the world physically too! Here we have chosen just a few crackers from our twitter account to show the depth and breadth of work our wonderful libraries are delivering for communities across the globe!

We congratulated Deichman Bjørvika library in Oslo the Public Library of the Year 2021
Deichman Bjørvika Library in Oslo was named as the International Federation of Library Associations’ Public Library of the Year 2021 at the world conference! The prize goes every year to the world’s best newly built public library. Among the criteria are functional architecture, creative ICT solutions and digital development. Deichman Bjørvika competed with 4 other libraries for the prize: Marrickville Library in Australia, Het Predikheren in Belgium, Ningbo New Library in China and Forum Groningen in the Netherlands. The library opened in June last year and was designed by the architectural firms Lundhagem and Atelier Oslo. We can’t wait to visit!

We wanted to give you 5 great reasons to Think About Your College Library App!

We loved working with Ivy Tech Community College Library and with Ireland’s DKiT college – both great examples of enabling 24/7 anytime, anywhere student access. Making library account management, digital membership and all services easily accessible and at the same time multilingual, contactless, hygienic….

New role models for little girls across the world! We loved that Mattel have created a Barbie doll of British Scientist, Sarah Gilbert, the coronavirus vaccine developer. Sarah now shares the honour with Beyonce, Marilyn Monroe and Eleanor Roosevelt.

We were moved by The Book Collectors of Daraya

The Book Collectors of Daraya — a secret library under siege. The story of anti-Assad Syrian activists who established a makeshift reading room

We loved that our friends at Lincolnshire libraries made it simple!

Why buy when you can borrow? Scan the barcode on any title, anywhere, then search the catalogue to borrow it! 24/7 library access. We loved that showed just how simple and intuitive the app barcode feature is, allowing you to scan any book, anywhere and if we have it in stock, you can reserve it from our catalogue – it’s that simple!

We loved…. The fabulous Team at Gateshead LibrariesThey were out in the community in Gateshead with AR books and iPads and had a T-Rex keeps following them too! With the Ann Cleeves Project @edbertshouseCLP and @BLGateshead #brightentheday and Big Local Summer Fun

We loved Denbighshire Libraries’ solo digital spaces

DENBIGHSHIRE Libraries’ new digital initiative supports people with space for private online appointments. All libraries in Denbighshire now house new solo digital spaces, funded by the Welsh Government
